“No creature can fly with just one wing. Gifted leadership occurs where heart and head – feeling and thought – meet. These are the two wings that allow a leader to soar.”
P. 26 Goleman, Primal Leadership
To me this means that a leader mut be fully engaged in their purpose, with their mind and their emotions. Someone who is smart is not necesarily a good leader of an organazation if he does not feel attached to what he is doing. Someone who is passionate about something is not necesarily a good leader either; he must also be competent. A really good leader is someone who is thoughtful, competent, and is passionate about what they are doing.
For example "two-winged" leadership could look something like an artistic cooridnator for a film who is not only skilled in his area of expertise but he also invests quality time in the work he has to do for the film, not just because he has to but because he enjoys what he is doing and wants to make sure that his team works to their fullest potential to be able to create a film that goes beyond expectations.
